Rules in short

  1. Each player gets a secret word they cannot see, written on a note, a card or held up on a phone.
  2. On your turn, ask the others one yes-or-no question about yourself.
  3. If the answer is yes, you may ask again. If it is no, the turn passes.
  4. You may make one final guess instead of a question. A wrong guess ends your turn.
  5. The first player to name their identity wins, or everyone plays on to rank the finish.

Picking identities

Animals, roles and countries work best, because the first questions are obvious, such as alive or not alive, big or small. Hard words are phrases, where the right first question matters more than luck.

Questions

Do I have to use a phone?

No. Print the list, cut the words into slips and stick them on foreheads or pass them face down.

Can adults and kids play together?

Yes. Pick the easy list for younger players and the hard list for adults, or mix them.

How many questions are allowed?

As many as you get yes answers in a row. Agree a limit of twenty total if you want a shorter game.
